The Saddest Man I've Seen

I finally have a semi-specific date for when my Turkmenistan book will be coming out. It should be just before the Small Press Expo which is happening September 26th and 27th in Bethesda Maryland. I'll get the books a few days before and then I'll be there selling them and signing them and talking about Turkmenistan. If you're in the D.C. area then you should stop by, check out the book and say hello.

There should also be more news about this on my publisher's blog. And, of course, I'm posting stuff there about the Turkmenistan book every week.

I'll Just Get These Out of the Way

Back in May my girlfriend and I split up and got back together again. In between the breaking up and the making up I drew these comics, but never posted them. Now, it looks like things are really done between me and her, and these comics feel just as true as they did then. Instead of spreading them out over a few days I'm just going to put 'em up all today and be done with it.

One Mode of Procrastination

My book on Turkmenistan is coming out next month. I don't have a specific date, but I have been assured that it will be printed and available before the Small Press Expo in D.C. on the 26th and 27th. I'll be there with the book, stop by and see me. Or if you can't make it to that order the book on Amazon. It's available for pre-order right now.

Also this weekend I met up with some of the people from the Turkmenistan Youth & Civic Values Foundation. They're an excellent group doing development work in Turkmenistan. Check out their site and help them out.

And check out my publisher's blog for more news about my book and all their other books.

And listen to Old Old Fashioned by Frightened Rabbit.

I Only Got One Thing To Say

Seriously, I'm dying. I can't wait for autumn. I'm not ready for winter, but definitely the fall.

Things My Students Have Taught Me 1

When my last book came out I was worried about what kind of reviews it would get. I dreaded reading reviews that would just tear it apart. When the reviews finally came there weren't very many negative ones. After reading the first one I suddenly realized, that of course the reviews were not going to be as bad as I had imagined they could be. Nobody was going to read my book as closely as I had. No one was going to think about it as much as I had. Knowing that, all the reviews became easier to take, even the negative ones.

Anyway, the reviews haven't started to come in just yet for my new book, but I have gotten a negative review of the blurb on a blog. Check it out. At least my book's at the top of the page. And thanks to whoever it was in Greece who connected to my blog from that blog.

And of course, check out my publisher's blog for my weekly bit about the making of my Turkmenistan book.
